Form 2290 E-filing process - Prior Year Suspended

If you listed any vehicle as low mileage/suspended during the previous tax year, the IRS requires you to report that vehicle if any of the following have occurred:


1. The vehicle exceeded the 5,000 mile threshold (7,500 miles for agricultural vehicles)

2. The vehicle was sold / transferred.

If you have taxable vehicles that were sold,destroyed or stolen before June 1st of the current tax year, you may file a claim for a credit or refund by submitting form 8849 “Claim for Refund of Excise Taxes”. If you paid heavy vehicle use taxes on a vehicle during a previous tax period but did not exceed the 5,000 mile threshold (7,500 miles for agricultural vehicles), you may be eligible for a tax credit or refund. File for a credit or refund by submitting Form 8849 “Claim for Refund of Excise Taxes”. Form 8849 “Claim for Refund of Excise Taxes” can not be filed until the next year.
